Harloween: The Real Life Candy Man

Unraveling the Enigma of Harloween: The Infamous Real Life Candy Man

The case of the real life Candy Man, also known as Dean Corll, shocked the nation in the early 1970s. Corll was responsible for the brutal murders of at least 28 teenage boys in what became known as the Houston Mass Murders. His crimes were particularly heinous, as he would lure his victims with promises of candy and then torture and kill them in a horrific manner.

The meticulous investigation into Corll’s crimes revealed a complex web of deception and manipulation, as well as a network of accomplices who helped him carry out his heinous acts. The case remains one of the most chilling examples of serial murder in American history, and the hunt for the real life Candy Man continues to fascinate and disturb true crime enthusiasts to this day.

I was in high school when this happened and I’ll never forget it. This story reaped country wide coverage. I’ve never looked at Halloween candy the same.

  • @thechickapedia1175

To those saying that you remember the news saying about poisoned candy in your area… the news always likes to talk about that stuff about Halloween but it’s very rarely true. Unless you can find an article on it, its usually fear mongering (the person who said they heard about someone putting contaminated blood in blood oranges?! That would be NATIONAL news I’m sorry)

Watching this whilst planning a Halloween party for my daughter and her friends before we go out Trick or Treating that night…its not that I'm scared someone would poison the sweets, its just heartbreaking to imagine Timmy the way my daughter will be since they're close in age. Her innocence and happiness is so overwhelmingly pure that even thinking about it makes me want to sob my heart put knowing the world will crush it out of her one way or another 😢 poor Timmy – it's agonising to know how much he will have loved and trusted his dad. At least in his last moments he didn't know it was his dad that had hurt him. I hope he died quickly since it was such an agonising way to go.

I also feel awful for Timmy's mother and sister, especially the sister. She must have felt so conflicted and I think the people cheering and throwing sweets when he died is disrespectful to her. She may have never wanted to speak to her dad again but I'm sure the idea of him being executed was agonising for her too 😢

What an evil excuse for a man.

Hey Stephanie the term you're looking at 53.26 is "Vanilla". Lol That's how people are describing those who are boring, loners etc. I only know bcuz I have 26 & 30 yrs old children lmao

  • @lucianamazza4006

Not to make light of this forcible situation but I used to live Dip Sticks growing up when I was a kid & still do! I grab myself one every once in a while. It think a part of it nostalgia. All the awesome candies we grew up eating! Those gostobber style candies but they were black licorice, fiz candies, rock pops, Hubba Bubba with the comics in them, Thrills gum, war heads, jaw breakers the size of a baseball lol. Love it all. Takes me right back to childhood! Saturday daytime, because I had an early bedtime right up until the time I left for college. Thank you for another great podcast! I hope there is some peace brought to those touched by this senseless act.

LOVED this Pod Cast !! Never knew the REAL story of the CANDYMAN. Now that I do, it really upsets me ( kinda like, watch what you ask for ☹️ ) ♥️

  • @marryIsfake964

do you know what? I saw Bailey Sarian do the story a couple of years back. would you mind doing the story on bloody Mary? Because Bailey Sarian did that too if you know who Bailey Sarian is. She's one of your fellow counterparts in true crime stories.

  • @marryIsfake964

    I love Stephanie Harlow

CANNOT WAIT FOR HARLOWEEN ‘23 ❤

  • @buddyismyheart

I grew up in Houston and vividly remember this. This changed Halloween forever.

  • @jesicabrown8732

My mom taught me at a very young age to always check my candy for tampering. She had a friend growing up in the 70s who bit into a caramel apple that had a razor blade hidden in it. I always checked! I taught that to everyone I know.

Anti death penalty supporters are there to protest the death penalty…duh!! Where else would they be?

  • @jeffreybii

I love the way she says documentary

  • @mariannegray7711

He did kill Halloween. If you were lucky enough to have been a child before this happened, you know how truly magical that night was. And this one event altered forever how the traditional celebration was changed.

  • @greenwitch3378

im in the uk and we have had many things like this happen but theres been razor blades in sweets, a guy put needles in snickers chocolate bars apparently as a prank, weve had pencil sharpener blades be put in to soft sweets that can easily be moulded around them. we have even had another guy wrap up raw brussle sprouts in sweet rappers to hand out to children. in the uk the daily star news paper did a report about this case!

  • @zombiechicken7114

Such a heartbreaking case. You would think its weird to waste money on insuring the children when you are struggling. But it would be so hard to imagine your husband might be considering killing your children. She must have been devastated when she put it all together. I hope she and their daughter managed to live a good life.

  • @SabrinaBrown0402

This man is despicable and got what he deserved! He 💯 was guilty and unfortunately thought this was the only way to get out of his situation. My heart goes out to Elizabeth and Danine❤ I hope they went on to fulfill everything they wanted to.

  • @fayemurphy7638

Mmm, grief is very subjective. Yes he did it but showed no real grief. Here in Australia 🇦🇺 I always think of Lindy Chamberlain who was judged by her demeanour, and yes, I thought her guilty at the time. Insurance makes it a whole different ballgame 😢

  • @Smiles2U4Ever

Desperation makes you think really crazy sh!t.

  • @henning9615

I took out life insurance on my daughter the day she was born
Why? Cause her big sister died of SIDS when she was 3 weeks old and we had to ask for help to pay for her funeral and head stone and i was full of anxiety that it all would happen again cause i wasnt allowed to be happy

  • @critical-goat363

Oleander is actually so deadly, that the honey made from bees fed primarily on the flower is still extremely dangerous

  • @__thelastpoet

    I, too, love fun dip.

  • @myradavis1139

just have to comment that the $108 policy back then is almost $800 today. that’s INSANE and so irresponsible…

  • @gregg9672

I enjoy the longer videos and this was excellent. I love how you say what everyone is thinking no telling how this monster tortured this poor child.

  • @maggiemicdup

So this may be the story the started my interest in true crime and my lack of trust in people. It's one of the first if not the first true crime story that I remember really consuming. It was on a&e or a similar channel when I was quite young.

  • @kevinorcutt8697

You should make a video about the Candy Man killer Dean Corll who was also from Houston.

  • @britthealthunprofessional7145

If my kid were poisoned I already discussed what I’d do immediately in a video! My liver regeneration video… at the end I discuss poisoning and basic detox supplements I would use in most cases. There are even more detox supplements that could be used and obviously herbs too!!!! There’s never guarantees and I’m not saying everyone or anyone should try it… but I have plans for many things including poisoning. Based off of my 6+ years practicing Natural successfully! No docs, vets, dentists, etc. anymore so far

  • @zipzip8239

the real life candy man is what the movie is very loosely based off of. this guy isnt the real life candy man.

  • @yaytubeable

His father giving him the pixie stick is definitely top five most f’d up things I have ever heard in my life.

  • @LadyOfMaine

I’m 67 years old and remember when this happened.

When I was a kid, Halloween was awesome. We were just free to run with our friends.
Now they have this Trunk or Treat nonsense

  • @melloncoliee

Sweets to the sweet…Tony Todd will always be the best Candy Man.

  • @UPNorthNick

Sam Hyde is the Real candyman

  • @dawnsmith297

Hi Stephanie! First time commenting! I joined your channel a few weeks ago and I'm so enjoying it. I have to say when i saw the title for this post "Candy Man" and then saw it was in Texas I actually thought it was about the serial killer Dean Corrl who was also called the candy man because he owned a candy store and would lure young children with candy and later young men with drugs. I knew Wayne Henley (who would help lure teens) and many of the young boys who they killed. Check him out you may want to do a video about Dean. Also yes this man single handedly killed Halloween for everyone here. To this day (and i'm in my 60s) we still don't see Halloweener's like we use to.
