Come back yo rewatch this after the new "She's gone" information. It now makes me think this was written as a goodbye letter to Brian. They did a last final family vacation together knowing Brian was going away for a long time and then when he went to park they knew he wasn't coming back. The moon sentence I think is just saying no matter what we will eventually be reunited.
@joceery
so I see two versions. either BL means with "nothing can stop me loving you, nothing will or could divide us" Gabby or the murder/jail time. with saying "if you're in jail" is like she was sure he may does something bad. or did. the cake with a file and garbagebags are weird explicit details. you would usually not go that deep if it's just a normal I'm always there for you whatever comes. "love is actions. watch people's actions to know if they love you not their words." could be again meant to be about gabby her being not the right one for him or them as parents helping him because of the murder. the romans quote sounds to be about nothing can take you away from us even the court. and the phrases in the ( ) sound like the happenings they see as possibilities after the murder comes out and them believing him to be with them.
@awkward_gravity
If I were to interpret this as from before, which I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt and do, the bible quote is giving gross vibes to me, like mom is TOO CLOSE to her son. It's off. I want to know why they were fighting and why the fighting was so bad.
If after…I mean, damning.
But I can't shake that feeling of being creeped out by that passage in a very specific way.
@MailyCovenette
I personally think that your theory is correct that she wrote it before because they were fighting about Gabby. I know there was DV before they left and the burn after reading could be so that Gabby doesn't see it. I wish it was easier to say it was after, but it can't be proven without a doubt. And the quality of the paper and not being damaged also supports that theory.
However this doesn't negate the Petito's point that they would do anything (like cover for their son who just murdered his fiancé) and it just proves the disregard for Gabby in general. So even if it was written before it still proves that they wouldn't take a stance against their son.
@Ltenn
Looks like his mom wrote in his notebook that was found also. Looks like she tried to make it look like she didn’t write it but a handwriting expert would show confirm the same person wrote the burn letter and in the notebook
@Ltenn
Was probably written when he flew home for his mental health crisis (oops… to clean out a storage unit) and given to him after he got out before flying back
@jemmah4723
I think the letter was written before the road trip but it indicates she knew her son was a hot head and was anticipating something bad happening. It also adds weight to the theory that both parents were helping him try to escape justice. It does not put her in a good light at all.
@michellelee7230
After. The one thing the letter doesn’t say is: “You can always come home.” Because he can’t, his parents helped him go on the run and his mom wrote this letter to remind him he has their support no matter what and to remember that when he feels alone because she was worried about him taking his own life.
They knew he was going to the reserve to think, make a plan and then leave in the car. They didn’t tell police where he was, buying him time to get away. But when they saw the car was still there a few days later, they knew he took his life and had their lawyer contact police to let them know that they had some info about where he could be. She wanted her son’s dead body found, not sitting out in the elements getting eaten by animals. Which is real ironic considering the situation.
That is not a letter you write to your son before he leaves on a road trip with his gf, even if she didn’t agree with it. That letter would say, we love you and we’ll fly you home at any time if things aren’t working out. But it says nothing like that because the whole purpose of it is that he can’t come home and she wants him to remember that she loves and supports him no matter what. The love through actions part is not about Gabby, it’s about what his parents have done to help him evade police after he murdered his gf. She basically says she loves him so much, she’d show up where he left Gabby’s body and help dispose of it if he wanted her to.
The letter is sickening, especially since Gabby’s parents were still frantically looking for her and his parents were totally uncooperative until they realized their son didn’t go on the run like they were hoping and his body needed to be found.
@pajamamama16
I feel like if she wrote it before the murder she wouldn’t be inclined to say “burn after reading.” If it’s just a declaration of love and loyalty why burn it?
@LoriTalbot-du2qt
I think it is a Magpie, They are fiercely protective of their babies!
@briancook3035
Tasha K was worth 5 Million before lawsuit! Questions
@tiffanyserrano4063
This letter gives me major ick. She didn’t just love her son, she sounds like she was IN LOVE with her son. My gut tells me that she was jealous of his relationship with Gabby and that she didn’t like her very much and probably why she didn’t speak up. This was probably written after he returned home.
@curleyqreviews9793
This letter sound like something Bonnie would write Clyde during his jail sentence, not a mother to a son
@k1amc3
1:07:37 wanting him to know he would still be loved after miles of separation…. I moved literally across the world and my own mother didn't have to tell me she would still love me in such….bizarre ways
@trinitylynn0726
1:47:02 I wanted kohberger's middle initial to be "T" so he'd be BTK 😂
@kellybryant2416
My fiancé uses the saying ‘ I’ll bring the shovels’ as a way to express his love and loyalty. Especially with his military buddies. But this letter reads extremely toxic. Or from someone desperately reaching out to someone who the writer is feeling is severely unstable. ‘Burn after reading ‘ completely negates any kind of excuse she’s giving.
@mariafernandamuanis5036
i think it was after Gabi was dead. probably the son didn't say to the mom, but she manifested thet she knew, that she figured out
@uncanari
post live crew here, but if the burn after reading letter was in such good condition, wouldn't that stand to reason that it probably didn't exist for months prior to her death and was instead written after she was murdered?
@jessicawhite3810
The bird is from a book Laundrie had which holds significance, called Lullaby.
@DiegoSnow504
HERE'S MY EDUCATED GUESS/SPECULATION!
I think they knew he killed Gabby. I think when came home without Gabby, they questioned him about it, and he told them the truth. He would then start getting anxious, displaying mixed emotional feelings and ask them "what do I do?" The parents would then tell him, "You need to run!" While he's packing a bag, and getting his things together, the mother writes the letter to send with him as a "parting" gift… you know, like in a "If I never see you again" type situation. He takes the letter, and leaves… At this point. This is indicated by the "burn after reading" note… I mean, if you love your son that much, and you just want him to know that you love him, why do you need to burn the letter after reading it? RIGHT??????? Moving right along, swiftly and professionally… Brian's stress levels increase, and his mind begins to fill with doubts of being able to live on the run. Additionally, he has the added pressure of KNOWING he murdered his fiancé. This could've been the tipping point, where after only a few days of being in the wilderness, he decides to commit suicide.
OR
When Brian returned home on a flight on August 17th after their domestic violence dispute, which caused them to separate for the night, Brian could've informed his mother about the incident at that time. He probably told her of his intent, or how frustrated he was. She wrote that letter to him to say "I'm always going to love you! If something happens, let me know and I'll help you figure it out!" That's why when he returned home without her, and the police questioned them at their home, they didn't say anything – simply handed them their lawyers card.
In retrospect, the parents seem just as sketchy as Brian, himself… And to be quite frank, I honestly don't think he killed himself. But I won't get into conspiracy theories… Ian Flemming said it best, "Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action!" What do you guys think?
@DiegoSnow504
Can you tell me why @ 45:10 the date of the letter say 24 May 2024??????
@zumbawakanda3035
No matter when it was written it tells us that she knew bad DV was going on and she suggested that to his son to look for her actions not words and if you need to get rid of Gabby and mother will show up with shovel and bags to dispose a body so it is basically suggesting what to do and how she will support no matter what action his son takes it was acceptable by her. So question for the mother is when your son came back home alone without Gabby and you wrote that letter before they left didn’t it ring a bell that he has taken her advise and disposed Gabby’s body & they called in their family lawyer. She knew a lot before their trip and after the trip but she knowingly hided every piece of information from Gabby’s parents and assisted her son in killing his girlfriend and keeping it secret because nothing can stop her but guess what God can stop her and bring to justice system to pay the price for assisting in killing a beautiful soul
@rebekahdunn7114
If it was written before I don't think she would've thought to say "burn after reading", because if it was just supposed to show how much she loved him and how devoted she was to him – why would she want him to get rid of it? Wouldn't she want him to keep it with him to re-read to remind him of that when times were hard? Like I have a card from my husband where he has written about his devotion to me and us as a couple (I've had health issues for about 6 years now). So I kept it and I look at it when sometimes I need to remember he's behind me all the way. Granted it doesn't mention jail and shovels; but if that was the sentiment isn't that something that's forever?
@charyaka
My dad has told me he’ll help bury a body so if she didn’t think anything was too bad that makes sense.
@shaniya_hope
✨speculation✨ I think the letter was indeed written before they both left. I also think the mother had an instinct that this could be an outcome of the road trip and wanted to let her son know she forgave him for murdering someone before he even did it. I am aware this is an insane take but I can’t help it it’s how I feel
@chicagodoll7012
And a jury would hear/see the transcript of her afidavit. The mainstream media wouldnt
@chicagodoll7012
Its interesting that what she says to the media doesnt mention it would be embarrassing and why.
@chicagodoll7012
Yeah, but they dont then say in court that it would be embarrassing and know it isnt an appropriate letter..
@chicagodoll7012
Its her admission that it is embarrassing and isnt "the sort of letter a mother should write to her grown son" that sends it into inappropriate relationship feelings for me
@chicagodoll7012
Replay crew… so, without context, it sounds like someone professing their undying love, nothing major. Cuz people will say stuff like that all the time.
WITH context, knowing she said they were fighting, it was supposedly written before their trip,and that she feels it was "inappropriate" for a mom to write to her son… it reads like someone with major romantic feelings for her son. And if it was written before their trip id put good money that they were fighting about him being with gabby and thus "leaving" mom. Which bring up a whole other worm hole of questions
@claritaakerman2843
I think it was written when he went.missing. i dont think she knew he killed Gabby but I think she suspected it. Also i think she was aware of his temper and the volitile relationship between him and Gabby. I think she wanted him to reach out to her and its a letter saying "i willgelp you no matter what you have done". I think its a desperate mother trying to "help" her son with suicide ideation. I know this will not sit well with people because Gabby was the victim here. Im seeing this from a mothes prespective.
@heatherk841
I can’t believe she dared to use the Bible as some sort of defense for her love, right after she said she was going to bring trash bags and a shovel
@mellaniemeiries7879
Letter was wrote after he murdered Gabby, in my opinion! If it were before, why label burn after read? That’s just weird…. Wouldn’t you want them to hold onto a letter of you trying to display how much you love them.
@melissachamness6233
💜💜 finally got to watch this!
@mackat7865
This mom definitely knew everything her son had done before writing this disturbing letter. The letter is filled with desperation to not lose her son and to help him no matter the cost. No mom talks this way to their son. As a mom of a son, I find this utterly the creepiest letter from mother to son. I also got a disturbing vibe of how his upbringing might have been with a mom like that. Did she consistently confess her undying love for her son all the time? Its just an unhealthy relationship IMO. She knew Gabby was killed by her son and the letter glaringly shows this.
@maryturula7620
At the very least the letter is blasphemous af.
@alysoncaddick6344
Had to Google Dave. Not well known in the UK!
@tracyderbin141
Mothers are not just compelled to write a letter of this type, so she knew Gabby was killed by her son and he had already confided in her of the details…that is why she wanted the letter burned. It could and will be used as evidence against her.
@onceupon3805
I agree it makes so much more sense for her to have written the letter after the murder
@cruisingcowgirl
It was definitely AFTER because if you Google the words “Forgiving Murder bible quotes” it comes up with that bible quote!!!!!!!!!!
@storyjumper
The letter feels like a much creepier version of a love letter to a spouse
@mindyrolston3915
So they're living in sin if they're going away in the van. But they're not living in the sin if they're Is living with brian's family.
@deecastagna9284
He didn't do 41 at the Wilmington show, but he did do Rapunzel which was pretty great.
@kathysteele4212
That is some killer claws on the bird … got to admit.
@kathysteele4212
The saying is … the son always marries his mother. What does mom's background tell us of the situation …
@kathysteele4212
The letter was written after Gabby's murder and Brian showed up to shock his parents with the news. It sounds like there was a family pow wow to what action should be taken ….
