The motive was definitely money and greed. They did that to her because they were so angry that she stopped giving them what they wanted. They lost control. I think they were playing her from the very beginning like the movie Parasite.

What a gruesome and sad story and total waste of a wonderful human's life. Given how rich Abby's family was, why didn't she have body guards? I would expect her whole family to be protected. As far as motive, being Asian, I can tell you families can be brutal over real estate. It is so stupid in this case since Abby promised to relocate them. Of course as you pointed out, if the family thought they could inherit Abby's money upon her death, they would certainly see that as worth killing for. These people have NO morals whatsoever!! If the money meant so much, why did her first husband let her go, or why did they divorce. You would think he would try everything possible to keep her happy. I am sure her ex-husband's horrible and gross father was the mastermind. Course, I have no idea what justice is like in China. I know I do not trust anything the Chinses media (controlled by the government) puts out, so I am not sure we will find out the truth. i am so sorry for such a greedy stupid thing to happen to such a lovely person.

I can’t comprehend this crime, they could have just killed her and even buried her somewhere or left her at that house dead, if it’s about money. The mutilation of her corpse is beyond horrific, leaving parts in the apartment and hiding the rest like why?!! The old disgusting “father in law” was in the police force he could have just put a hit on her easily!!! The story is very weird if they were just after money why do this to her dead body!!! I mean a chopper, minced meat and soup made out of her scull?!! WTF!!!

I think it was definitely motivated by greed and money. I think that the way they treated her body and tried to dispose of it was inspired by things like Dexter and the ex-father-in-law's knowledge from when he was on the police force. It is so shocking that so many people were involved in it though. Like 2 people sure but 3 + is insane. I wouldn't be surprised if they found ways to cremate the rest of the body or of the bones. They seemed very intent on trying to erase all evidence of her, but I don't think they thought that the police would be involved so soon and so they had not disposed of everything yet. Which is fortunate for Abby for her killers to be caught. The most grotesque part is the meat grinder and with minced meat and bones in the soup. Horrifying to think either they were all planning on eating it or feeding it to other people unknowingly.
