I went to elementary, middle, and high school with George Smith. He was one of the kindest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I was a cheerleader for the team George played for. While at an away game, I was being bullied hard by the cheerleaders from the other team. George came to my rescue during a play to assist me. He heard the horrible things they were saying to me and walked off the field during a play and came to make sure I was okay. He helped me in a crucial moment that could have gotten much worse. George's parents and sister are the most loving family and it breaks my heart that they may never know what really happened to him.

When people go overboard the ship turns around, which takes a mile or more and then does a rescue search. Zig zag pattern. With ocean currents being they way they are ? People aren’t often found. Sometimes they hit the water so hard it knocks them out and then drowning occurs. This is a quote from a ships captain.
People do not realize the cruise ships do not have the same rights and privileges as in America and when you go on these ships you are privy to the laws of where the ship is registered or the captain and they do not want press or bad things to come out so they were going to cover up any possible thing they can
For people asking what the Turkish police could do, i would have under protocol….. 1) taken several different swabs as cleanly as possible of the blood and the surrounding area as carefully as possible and placednthem into evidence bags. I would have swabbed several highly suspect areas in the room ( like the window and sill, the door knobs etc….) and made sure the bags were labeled time, date, location and noted who it was collected by. I would have also blocked it off if possible so that they could sttempt to preserve the evidence until theh reached port. However by swabbing, you have a higher probability of saving evidence in the case it was washed away by inclement weather or suspicious events.
2) i would have collected fingerprints with an appropriate kit or tape of none were abilable of door knobs, window and crime scene
3) i would check surveillence on all parts of the ship.
4) all items bagged tagged and ready to investigate of the police on board are not adequate or to lab for testing if they are.
5) i would make a formal announcement to all guests and staff that an investigation is underway and that if they could avoid those restricted areas it would be appreciated and to please have patience. They may be on vacation but we are talking about a possible death and post a guard around the bloodied area
Told my sons who went in the Navy to not make enemies because my uncle told me if anyone wanted to get rid of you they could pretty easily knock you overboard. That may be why I haven’t been on a cruise yet.

Will someone kindly notice and state – while cruising the ship is normally in open waters . Therefore since it is in international waters maritime laws apply and the ultimate law is the captain. Hasn’t anyone noticed people only go overboard while in international waters. I was on a cruise where a young man “fell” overboard. We, as passengers, were never advised when it occurred but were advised after someone noticed we were going in circles late in the evening after sunset. Presumably it was an employee who jumped from the lower decks which were reserved for staff only . They never found his body. Sometime research or if you know someone in the cruise industry ask them how to locate the incident report for crimes on the high or open seas as well as oops they fell numbers and you’d be surprised at which line has had the highest disappearance & abuses – of the non consensual kind on record. It’s an industry report, it’s a matter of public record but you know where to look it’s very hard to find. But that information is out there. Stop thinking the next port of call can address any crime on the high seas there are held within a federal court but they function with their own laws/ San Francisco used to house a maritime court. I accompanied someone who was interpreting the Greek laws and testifying. Personally don’t know where it’s at or was present. In order to be present he was certified internationally and investigated by all parties involved including the federal authorities here. Foreign countries can only assist, it’s all maritime. A prisoner can be turned over to local authorities to be held until a federal court appointed by and in accordance with international maritime law to transport/transfer to wherever they determine.
