On May 30th, 2023, the grandmother of Maha Hobbs called police to request a wellness check for Maha. When police first interviewed Maha’s mother, Alexus Nelson, she tried to make it seem like she had “rehomed” Maha to another family. However, upon searching her apartment, they found the charred remains of a child. What could possibly cause a mother to do something so horrific to her own daughter?
