Dan Markel was murdered in July of 2014. It took investigators almost two years to follow the evidence and to identify the suspects. By 2016, there were two suspects who carried out the hit – Luis Rivera and shooter Sigfredo Garcia. Luis was in federal prison on unrelated charges. Investigators determined that the murder was connected to Dan Markel’s divorce, and suspected that one or more people in his ex-wife’s family ordered the hit. Katherine Magbanua was convicted in 2022. Charles Adelson was convicted in 2023. Then, his mom, Donna, made plans to leave the country to travel one way to Vietnam, via Dubai. Then, at the airport, she was arrested. Donna Adelson was charged in late 2023, and her case is pending.

On Monday, November 6, 2023, Charles Adelson is convicted of the conspiracy, solicitation, and murder.
