In 1910 Ethel Le Neve wrote this account of her adventures with Dr Crippen, the notorious murderer. It contains details of her early life, her relationship with Crippen, her understanding as to the disappearance of Crippen’s wife Cora, and her decision to flee the country with the doctor. Le Neve insists that she had no idea that anything sinister had happened until they were both arrested on board a ship headed for Quebec. The case was a public sensation, not least because Le Neve disguised herself as Crippen’s son and their capture was pulled off with the help of the relatively new-fangled wireless telegraph. But was Ellen Le Neve really a naïve, love-struck woman? Or was she a calculating co-conspirator in murder? While Crippen was convicted of murder and sentenced to death, Le Neve was acquitted of perverting the course of justice by a jury at the Old Bailey.
Her account of the case was published shortly after her trial under the title ‘Ethel Le Neve: Her Life Story With the True Account of Their Flight and Her Friendship for Dr Crippen Told By Herself’
Following its publication she disappeared from public life.
This ebook contains an introduction, a short summary of the Crippen murder case and drawings from the original book, which is now in the public domain.
