Family annihilators do it for 1 of 2 reasons: 1) the family is no longer serving them any purpose, this usually happens when the children grow past the age of 5 or when the annihilater finds a new narcissistic feed and the family now feels like a burden they just don't want to bear, or 2) they're failing in some way and they want to "save" their families by just taking them out to "protect" them from whatever foreseeable harm coming their way. At least that's how it seems from all the cases I've seen
