Upon arriving at the scene of the fire in Fall of 2002 at Hugh Poland Hall, it was immediately evident to investigators that this was no ordinary accident. Katie’s severe burns indicated that she had been deliberately set on fire. As the fire department responded to the initial alarm, Captain Bob Sandborn made a crucial discovery – a chest rising in what he had initially thought to be a pile of clothing. It was clear that Katie needed urgent medical attention.

Further examination of the room revealed a disturbing detail – a rag had been strategically taped around the overhead sprinkler, indicating that this fire was not only intentional, but also planned. It was becoming increasingly apparent that a heinous crime had been committed in addition to the act of arson. As a highly detailed crime investigator, it is my duty to meticulously unravel the layers of this case and bring justice to those responsible for this horrific incident.
