As an experienced and meticulous crime investigator, I scrutinized every detail in this transcript with precision and expertise. The suspect’s evasive answers and inconsistencies raised red flags, pointing towards potential deception. Furthermore, the crime scene evidence pointed towards a premeditated murder, with the victim showing signs of struggle and defensive wounds. As I delved deeper into the investigation, it became clear that the suspect had a history of violent behavior and may have had a motive for the crime. My keen investigative skills and attention to detail led me to unravel the intricacies of this complex case, ultimately leading to justice being served.

Do you think this was revenge or self-defense?

  • @Flowers87216

The way I look at it is she’s not safe to the public if she enters one of these “episodes”. If she can haul off and hit a women with an axe 41 times because something was said that “ triggered “ her , surely she could potentially harm again. Even if she was having a “reaction” she brutally killed a woman, she went way past self sense IMO. Seems insane to me that she didn’t even get a slap on the wrist.

Also how the heck did she land a job with an incident like that!? Wouldn’t her even spending time in jail be on her record? They didn’t do police checks back then? l don’t know…just seems so bizarre to me lol.

  • @janlundberg5924

Serious vocal fry. It's on me. I don't like it.

  • @Witch_Bitch86

As a native, I can confirm that Texas is the slightly less unhinged little brother of Florida

  • @dogpolice

omg i LOVED love & death, tell me all about it!

  • @mariajesna

I feel Betty Gore did not very a fair trail.

  • @user-ic6vv6zp8c

You’re too young for mom jeans!

  • @sonny7470

I cant see where to rate this

  • @TheMotherReborn

This is y I don't have and want friends. My husband and I have a no opposite sex friend boundary that works for us. We have each other and that's all we need besides our family. Idk how people can do this to their "friends." So disgusting.

  • @ekhemann

I thought this sounded familiar! I was born and raised in Wylie and didn't hear about this until I started asking people, "Has there been any crazy murders in this town?" and was told about an axe murder involving jealous women (or something) but I didn't get any more information about it. UNTIL NOW!! Thanks for doing such an amazing job telling these stories <3

  • @bobcat9314

44:59 youre disgusting Annie!! That segway is so insensitive and distasteful. You're awful for that!

  • @juliannajones6016

Candy leaving Betty’s house with the BABY still inside, knowing she just slaughtered the baby’s mom, that is what shows it wasn’t self defense!!!

  • @dietdrpepper15

It bothers me that people say “oh it was self defense”, the only person’s word we have is the murderer! And she ain’t the person I’d believe.

  • @mockingbird7303

Candy is a strippers name. Why would you trust her with your mental health? I do not think i would ever introduce a girl named Candy to my parents. Tells tells tells all around.

  • @orangexflamingo

I have to say I do tend to believe Candy in this instance. Let me explain. It comes back to the newspaper with the shining ad.
Betty Gore's mental state seems worse than anyone realized. I don't know if it was PPD or another mental illness. But between her husband being gone and not having a great support system no one saw how bad her mental start got.

At the time of the murder I think she was in a state of psychosis. That shining ad felt like a message to her, but at first she didn't know why.

When Betty came by they got into an altercation and she realized why she got that message from the universe. She grabbed the ax. Candy disassociated and it was a perfect storm.

That's just my opinion. I've been wrong before and I will be wrong again.

  • @grantbrendon

I dunno I would say 41 times is over kill and back in that era women were not really thought to be able to commit that type of violence. As for the cheating I think honestly any one is capable of cheating just takes the right time right person and home life not going very well. Now serial cheaters that’s another story.

  • @kaylamaggiolino7489

Candy is a Scorpio, and as a Scorpio woman I can never hurt someone like she did… however!!!!!!! We are VERY jealous human beings with our men, and when we fall… we fall HARD. Just putting that out there lol

  • @clariceriley489

This was the start of mental illness excuse horrible behavior by the “ perfect American Christian “….. reality for some is VERY fragile

  • @Lucia.Creations

    She got away with murder.

  • @projectbandshirt4329

Candy is guilty, especially since she covered it up, and mostly bc she left a one year old baby alone. She did it

  • @projectbandshirt4329

I’m so hooked on your show!

  • @pupfish_

Girl these ad breaks are so insensitive and gross like there has to be a better way.. “there was blood all over the sheets…”check out these lovely sheets you can buy with my promo code!” Literally ew?

  • @beverlyledbetter4906

    Betty looked forty, not thirty!🙄

  • @TapManDancer

Annie, I love your nail varnish.

  • @videoorgy

Justice system proved to be a joke this time around. Fucked up.

  • @user-kf1nm1bw8r

I actually believe Candy’s story, an axe seems so random and she didn’t even know there was one in the garage.

  • @zapperil

If i remember she's still alive now, and goes with the maiden name

  • @user-gx8fy3sz4s

Lifetime did a movie as well and it’s better than both of the new ones!

  • @jenniferstevenson1618

Try a morman cheater. My ex was in love with a woman who exclusively had sex with married men…for 30 years. He claimed she was his best friend because she she raised 5 boys by 5 different fathers by herself. Plus, she go her teaching degree. So, she now teaches school in Eastern idaho, and fucks married men. All the while, everyone admires her…

  • @stacieniavez7477

Hi thanks for making all this true crime horror content much appreciated 🎉

  • @moonagedaydream-ohyeah

I can see it being premeditated if Candy had brought her own weapon. How did she know where the axe was? How would she have gained access to it, to then surprise attack Betty? The 41 hits is extreme, but science has proven the power of adrenaline in humans. There have been mothers who lifted objects off of their children to save them, like an entire car, for instance. A shot of adrenaline, is like steroids times 10. I'm sure Candy's story isn't 100% true either. Unfortunately, we'll always have to speculate on this one.

  • @moonagedaydream-ohyeah

The Shining is about a recovering alcoholic who has been suppressing his pain, primal urges, and emotions. The perfect storm arises when he lands a job that puts him and his family in absolute seclusion. He has writer's block, so his only outlet for releasing this negative energy is cut off. The energy builds and builds until it takes him over. There's a parallel between that character and this woman who suppressing all the same things. Her mask is made of Illusions. The illusion of the perfect mother, perfect wife, and of a God-fearing parishioner who helps hold a moral compass for a sleepy, innocent community. As a human being, compartmentalizing and suppressing your energy isn't going to lead you to a good place. We all need an outlet. Our relationships with ourselves and each other need to be built on truth. That truth starts by being honest with ourselves about our positive and negative roots. The truth promotes healing. The lie causes destruction. The fact that two blood droplets were found next to that movie review, just goes to show that life really does imitate art.

  • @christineharper9112

Thank goodness the baby wad left alive. Annie you are a serious smart alick and crack me up not matter how the story plays out! ❤

  • @user-sp9em3qm6k

I’m not gonna lie is the Hulu show made me love and root for Candy

  • @lottiecousins7974

I really wanted to hear this case but the constant , neverending references and comparisons to HBO and Hulu made it too tedious unfortunately

  • @Tatyanna714

@annieelise I want to love your podcasts, but all of the mouth noises and dry swallowing are horrific for my misophonia. It is extremely difficult to get through. It is excessively frequent. 😖😖😖

  • @thedeadxtras9927

I only stumbled upon your channel last week and gotta say I’ve really been enjoying your reporting, narration and your story telling of the cases you choose to cover. You are by far one of the best narrators I’ve watched and listened too, well done on your in-depth research and reporting and being able to keep the viewer interested and myself fully focused on the stories you tell till the very end, which really isn’t easy to hold the viewer to the very end without clicking on something else midway through. Thanks and all the best Steve (Manchester, England) a new subscriber.

  • @Nyki02

You should read the book. Evidence of Love. It has Candy’s story about why Betty attacked first. Betty knew about the affair and thought it was happening again
