As a highly detailed crime investigator, it is important to note that the case of the family annihilation in Utah is a tragic and disturbing example of the phenomenon of familicide. The profile of the perpetrator, Michael, fits the typical description of a family annihilator – a middle-aged man who is perceived as a loving father and husband, highly educated, and the senior man of the house.

The investigation into this case revealed a history of violent behavior by Michael towards his family, including multiple assaults on his daughter, Macy. Despite these warning signs, no criminal charges were pursued in 2020 due to insufficient evidence. It is clear that there were missed opportunities to intervene and prevent this tragic outcome.

The motive for the killings remains unclear, but court filings suggest that Tasha’s filing for divorce may have played a role. The family was well-known in their tight-knit community, and the loss of Tasha, her mother Gail, and their five children has deeply impacted those who knew them.

The community has come together to support and mourn the family, with a memorial set up outside their home and a fundraising campaign to help with funeral expenses. The tragedy has drawn national attention and serves as a reminder of the dangers of family annihilation.

As the investigation continues, it is important to piece together the details of this case to understand how such a horrific event could have occurred. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Tasha, Gail, and the children as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

Do you believe this was a choice driven by selfishness or religion? Or both?

so sad, those kids, mother and granmother didnn't deserve that what so ever

And again, there were a lot of signs, reports to the police.. And again,, police didn't follow through.. You pretty much see this in almost all of these type of cases…. A lot can be prevented… why it doesn't happen.. Well.. insufficient training, not enough personel to follow up, who knows… And sure it happens around the world but nowhere near the scale of those in the US… or frequency.

A lot of family annihilators seem to be conservative religious people. Seems like a lot of monsters hide behind beliefs and values.

  • @iddyrye5452

Familicide is not, new! It’s just finally getting recognized in media.

"Really good people" have been doing "Really bad things" for YEARS. The difference for several years now is that we all have the internet, iPads and cell phones which inform us of just about everything happening in the world. Before the internet, we just never heard about all of the corruption and murders that were happening outside of our own little space. It was happening then just as it is now. Nothing has changed except our access to the internet.

Anyone can attend church. That DOES NOT make a person good. There are MANY hypocrites that attend church on a regular basis. Being a Boy Scout or Girl Scouts or volunteering time at nursing homes doesn't make a person good. Evil people are everywhere and as humans we can be torn apart and completely blindsided by what others are capable of. But, the best thing to remember is God knows who these people are and He will deal with them accordingly. Hell is big enough for everyone on this planet.

  • @squidysquid9687

Why did the police not immediately arrest him when he assaulted his daughter multiple times. Lack of evidence? It’s an assault, the victims word should be enough everytime. Sucks the mom and police said they didn’t want to press charges. They didn’t protect those kids. Seeing the cops all teary eyed at the press conference, but they won’t reprimand the cops that let the dad beat his kids. Yah that’s not caring about those kids

  • @christinelove3393

how and why do so many husbands actually think that murder is the more logical, rational, and valid choice as opposed to divorce…it makes you wonder how "civilized" some humans really are…so primal…and how human nature has remained the same throughout history, its just our environment that has changed.

One major problem with the church is that they will often brush abuse and issues in the family under the rug. I've seen it and experienced it. On occasion I think if the church actually tried to get help rather than relying on other members then things may end differently. More than likely the cops are all members of the churh and believed that prayer and fellowship would help.

I don’t trust religious men of any kind. Never met one that was legit a good guy. I think men use religion to try and hide their red flags.

Just a small observation – WHY would taking her iPad and phone prevent her from leaving the house? Please everyone, stop having such a reliance and yes addiction to your "devices". People were fully capable of navigating their day BEFORE these devices started being their constant companions, learn how to be self reliant, realize that you do NOT need them, and do NOT tie yourselves to them by having everything in your phone.

  • @QuinSteph

If he was being abusive she should of left straight away honestly an abusive person won't just stop.

    When will people realise that.

  • @miriam100ful

"really good people do really bad things"? I'm sure there is something wrong with that quote.
Really sad when this happens. So sorry for the family and the poor children who had a whole life in front of them only to be cut short.
